Fujifilm patents a smarter way to pick its phase-detect autofocus math

The rumor

A Fujifilm patent published October 6 describes reading the phase-detection pixels to judge how much fine detail is in the focus area, then choosing the focus calculation that suits it, or combining several for in-between scenes. It also uses a trained subject-recognition model to help decide. Fuji Rumors notes it's a refinement of the existing on-sensor PDAF rather than new hardware, and that nothing ties it to the X-T6's rumored AI autofocus yet.
