The rumor

Sigma says the fp II is the world's smallest full-frame camera: 112.8 × 69.9 × 41.8 mm and 460 g. It's largely a redesign: a partially stacked sensor, a 3.15" tilting screen, a bigger battery, 20 fps, 70 GB of built-in storage, two USB-C ports and full-size HDMI. Video goes to 6K open gate with 12-bit ProRes RAW to an SSD, and Sigma claims 14.1 stops of dynamic range. A new 50mm f/1.4 lens and a set of accessories, including an EVF, launched alongside it.

My take

Sigma once again releases something unique and quirky. I love their menu system, the body size is nice, and I like the optional EVF and grip, though I wish the EVF could attach on top. I also wish they'd kept the aluminum block construction from the BF. I know a solid block makes heat harder to get rid of, but with some vents and a page from Apple's vapor chamber playbook, it could be an industry first. In my opinion, Sigma needs to lean in the BF direction, since that's what made its industrial design memorable. The tilt-only screen is another miss. A flip-and-tilt screen would have been more versatile. I'm curious whether video autofocus has improved, and I like having 70 GB of internal storage plus external recording. What I'd really love is a larger Sigma body with a built-in ND.
