Nikon announces the Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S, a $13,999.95 sports zoom with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter

Nikon has announced the Nikkor Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S, which it calls the first constant f/2.8 zoom with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter; a switch takes it to 420mm. It weighs about 2,735 g, 515 g less than the F-mount AF-S 120-300mm f/2.8E, and has 6.5 stops of VR with Synchro VR cameras, internal zoom and focus, and an Arca-Swiss compatible tripod foot. It ships in mid-November for $13,999.95 in the US, and Nikon Rumors says quantities will be very limited, with long waits. Pre-orders are open.

Nikon's Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC tipped at €15,499 in Europe
Nikon Rumors now has a European price for the upcoming Nikkor Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S: €15,499 including VAT, above the ,999 US price it reported earlier. The site still expects the announcement on October 28 or 29, and says production will be very limited, so expect long waits.

Nikon Rumors now puts the US price at $13,999, down from its earlier talk of over $16,000, which would mean it isn't Nikon's most expensive lens after all. In Europe it could still land around €16,000. The announcement is still expected on October 29.

Nikon usually follows Canon's lead, and since buying RED it's been leaning hard into video. I'd expect its lenses to be getting more video-friendly too, and this one may be part of that.
